Search not searching all files.

Post by tanger »

I am having a problem when I use the search feature. With windows search I will search for *.*db files and only get like 6 when their are over 60 of them. With the pro search tool with xplorer2 I will search and still only get about 6. It will only do this with certain search results. I can search for mp3 or pictures and get all of the results. Is it because some files are hidden and if so is their any way to search for all files including hidden.

from Tools | Options | General make sure you have "Show hidden files & folders" checked

you might check to see if those files are down your "Find Blacklist" path, which as a default includes
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings
C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Nethood

You can change the settings with regedit of Find Blacklist in .global key
but you must leave at least one entry, or x2 will reinstitute the default
(the entry can be a bogus, nonexisting folder if you want no restrictions)

& you can successfully search down those paths w/o editing the Find Blacklist if you start at the named Blacklisted folder(s) :)

first of all how can you tell there are more files to find?

if this isn't what fred says, it could be that you have the "super hidden" option checked, see your folder options in control panel
