thumbnail view of .ico files broken

xplorer2 1.1.0.1 unicode, win2k sp2. I have folder containing .ico icon files. When I open it with explorer in thumbnail view I can see each icon image as the thumbnail. When I do the same with xplorer2, all thumbnails show the X mark instead of the icon image.

the funny thing is that if you are not in thumbnail view you can see the icons! Some shell irregularity, surely!
