File Statistics Accuracy

Post by scribbler »

Hey.  Just wondering what's up with the wordcount feature?

When I check a simple text file (under 150KB) it reports 1856 words.  Other text editors and Word report 1756.  Then if I change the font or the width of the display window in Editor2, the count changes too!

Huh?!

(I believe this has been reported before)
The editor² word counter is crude & doesn't properly account for line wraps & perhaps other delimiters.
If it is important for you to have an exact count, please state your case & (maybe) nikos will improve it.

PS - a check later in the evening indicates that E2 counts spaces plus many punctuation marks, less autolinewraps and extra consecutive spaces to get its word count.  Not a particularly good algorithm, I would say.   Each .,"? counts as a word, when it should not. Single-quotes have no effect. But autolinewraps decrease the word count when they shouldn't.
