Norton File Insight won't let me install

Post by alyanm »

I just tried to download and install xplorer2 1.8.0.12 64 bit version and my Norton will not allow me to install it -- it says it is unsafe.  Any suggestions?  Has this download file been checked for viruses?

Thanks,
Alan

I'm wondering more and more these days: which is the bigger evil, the virus or the antivirus.
Just two recent cases:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/04/21 ... _positive/
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2010/03/22 ... gy_update/

The installation file is clean. Say my Bitdefender AV (based on clever heuristics) and I (based on even more clever trust ;-) ).

Can't you make Norton add it to some 'whitelist', or else, disable Norton during installation?

Well, I finally did figure out how to do it.  I went into the "Quarantined" files, clicked on options and recovered the file.  Then it let me install.

I also did submit to Norton so hopefully they will add this to their safe files list.

For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how to turn Norton off!!  Sometimes I miss my Zone Alarm suite....

I trust Nikos over Symantec (Norton).

Here is a recent article (May 16, 2010) that describes Symantec's false positives on World of Warcraft. http://isc.sans.org/diary.html?storyid=8803

Good news for Norton users, I just heard back from Symantec that they have
reviewed your recent submission to the Insight Dispute Submission form Webpage form "Xplorer2." In light of further investigation and analysis Symantec is happy to remove this detection from within its products. Please ensure that your machine reflects the change by running LiveUpdate.
