all explorers hang on one file, work around ?.

X2 and Win Explorer would both become totally unresponsive when encountering a particular picture file, the hour glass would appear and the entire OS (XP PRO SP3) would become unresponsive, The only way to recover was via a power shutdown and restart.
I eventually succeeded in deleting the file by deleting the directory containing the file without opening the directory.

I don't understand why a file browser would become unresponsive and lock up the entire OS, surely there is a more elegant way for file browsers to deal with unreadable or corrupt files ?.

If anyone has a clever method of dealing with this issue please share.

thanks.

hi there nikos.

Yes I did destroy that horribly corrupted file, and to be sure to be sure I reinstalled the OS.

But just as an aside, why won't the explorers fail gracefully instead of endlessly looping like a dog chasing it's tail ?.
