Re: blog: how to undo custom folder settings
Need help finding/changing currently BAKED-IN default global 'Folder view settings'.
To try to completely clear out any/all previously saved folder settings, I've deleted all 'desktop.ini' files found via Everything Search with the following command:
desktop.ini content:"x2PaneStyle"
For every drive under 'This PC', I did the following:
Actions > Folder settings > Clear > Apply the same folder settings for all subfolders (Yes)
After all the clearing, I did:
Actions > Save settings now
Restarted x2.
I go to a folder with no saved desktop.ini and set my desired view preferences, then do the following:
Actions > Save settings now
Actions > Folder settings > Default
Actions > Save settings now
This ONLY makes the CURRENT TAB have same folder settings while changing folders within THAT TAB.
Creating a new tab on a folder reverts the folder settings for that new folder to some currently BAKED-IN default global folder settings that I had created at some time.
So how/where can I change these currently baked-in default global folder view settings? Cause these old and now somehow "baked-in" folder view settings that are being applied as the default global folder settings are coming from and being stored somewhere...
Wish there was just an 'Advanced option' where you can simply point to the location of a single saved desktop.ini file that would be used as the default global folder view settings for all folders without a locally saved desktop.ini and for all newly created folders.
But I assume the desired changes can be found and made in a saved x2settings.reg file and then imported? If so, can I please get directed to the exact section location where the changes need to be made? TY

Re: blog: how to undo custom folder settings
basically don't use Actions > Folder settings > Default, it is a confusing and daft command.
just set the view mode you want, and that becomes default, de facto

Re: blog: how to undo custom folder settings
Thank you very much for replying with those suggestions, as it seems I was finally able to set a new default folder view globally.
I learned of some "quirks" that was messing me up and confusing me:
* A opened tab makes persistent and KEEPS carrying over the last/most recent folder view to any/all folders (without a saved desktop.ini) that is gone into from that ONE opened tab. (When I was expecting going into another folder, even though using the same opened tab, would automatically revert to the global default folder view for any new folder entered into without a saved desktop.ini.)
* A 'Refresh' within a folder without a saved desktop.ini doesn't refresh/revert the folder view back to global default settings. (When I was expecting a refresh/revert back to global default settings just like how a folder with a desktop.ini reverts back to the saved folder view.)

Re: blog: how to undo custom folder settings
each tab has its own "defaults" which again is whatever exists there. Use GOTO > SAME STYLE menu command to copy the settings from one dual pane to the inactive one
