Recycling Bin Not x64 Environmentally Friendly...

Post by Kilmatead »

I seem to remember x64 having a few emotional issues with "Goto -> Special Folders" (notably Control Panel), so I've tended not to use them directly, but something else seems amiss here.

Upon going to Recycling Bin (or, more precisely the mellifluously monikered "::{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}" :?), x2 will happily display the Bin folder - except it doesn't want to switch that pane to another chosen bookmark afterward; it results in a rather grumpy "The CPU cannot make sense of the last input" error.  This occurs on clicking any Bookmark.

It will, however, happily switch to "Computer" (or "My Computer" in old French), itself used from a Bookmark, afterwhich all other clicked bookmarks will work fine again.

I like purgatory as much as the next sinner, but what gives?  (And before you ask, yes, I've done all the usual supplications about closing/re-opening x2, and restarting the system, just in case any beasties got in to muck about.  It continues to happen.  Which probably explains why I tend not to address the Bin directly from x2...)

I can confirm this behavior.

However, if I return to the original folder that the pane was in before going to the Recycle Bin everything works fine again.

Well... yeah... but...

So I guess I don't get to name this one then, eh?  :(

If it's consistent behaviour, reproducible by more than just one pesky user (i.e., me) doesn't that at least qualify it as "something I'll look at later" rather than "Escaping to the desktop is fine, leave me alone"?

You gotta leave a vanquished enemy with some hope, look what happened to Germany after the Treaty of Versailles sunk in...

I could understand if the fault were in accessing the "Special Folders"... like I said, I've always considered them dodgy; however, isn't it rather gauche to blame MS for your bookmarks of "regular everyday folders" not working (just because I went to one of their unstable folders first)?

(Curiously, there don't seem to many quotes pertaining to Glory that one can ascribe to Microsoft.  Imagine that. :?)
