Using x2 lite with Bart's PE

Post by Cal »

Don't know if this topic belongs here or on the Bart's PE forum but here goes.

The problem: I'm trying to use x2 from within Bart's PE. It does not automatically refresh the view after files are deleted. Manually refreshing shows the deletions were made correctly. I haven't checked results after other file actions but guessing it'd be the same.

Problem occurs whether running Bart's PE from a CD or a hard drive installation.

Have tried using x2's default configuration and pre-loading the registry with the settings from a custom configuration that works fine when x2 is installed on a hard drive. Same results.

Any ideas :?: A registry entry hiding from me maybe :?:

it seems that this bart thing, whatever it is, doesn't setup the shell properly (will explorer autorefresh?)

you can try GIOPT_ALTAREFRESH from registry.txt

Thanks for the response Nikos.

If I understand the procedure, I just add the value of GIOPT_ALTAREFRESH ( 4 ) to the existing value of binMiscOption. Anyway, that's what I tried ... no change. But, I did notice that zero byte files and hidden files and folders are not displaying. Then tried to open the Tools/Options menu and it "flashed" but won't open. Just for testing, I ran 2xExplorer along side xplorer2. 2x functions perfectly in the Bart's environment.

Obviously, lots more investigation and testing is in order. I'll be working on it as time allows.

In response to your question, x2 refreshes fine under MS Explorer.

I'm sure you don't have much time for checking out other software right now but, if you can, Bart's PE is sure worth a look. Here's a link: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/. And, an excerpt from that site:

"Bart's PE Builder helps you build a "BartPE" (Bart Preinstalled Environment) bootable Windows CD-Rom or DVD from the original Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 installation/setup CD, very suitable for PC maintenance tasks." And, it too is free. The combination of Bart's PE and 2x ( or x2 if I can get it configured right ) makes a very potent set of maintenance tools. Great for cloneing drives.

In case it's not obvious, I love xplorer2. Have use 2x for some time and this is even better.

Using x2 Lite with Bart's PE

Post by Cal »

Follow up ...

Accidentally discovered that a relatively new plugin for Bart's PE fixed the problem I reported earlier. The plugin is named PELoader and it's purpose is to remove the limitation on number of processes built into Bart's PE ( a maximum of 6 processes ... including the shell ). The plugin and operational details are here: http://www.geocities.com/pierremounir/.

So, it would appear that x2 uses more processes than is normally allowed by Bart's PE whereas 2x was happy with that limitation. I'm still in the early stages of testing but it looks good at this point.

Anyway, thanks again for a super program. None better as far as I'm concerned.
