Ctrl+Shift+Drive Letter

Post by jamadagni »

Hello all. (?)

I have been using xplorer2 since it's release, and even in its previous avatar as 2xexplorer. I simply love it. I'm just saying this as my way of giving kudos to the author, if he is reading this (hopefully).

I have a small problem with the Ctrl+Shift+DriveLetter function. When I insert a new disc and hit Ctrl+Shift+F (my CD drive is drive F) it lists the folder but immediately goes to Desktop with an error message on the Status Bar saying: "The folder was moved or deleted. Moving to desktop." (I hope I got that verbatim.) But after that if I use Ctrl+Shift+F it doesn't do so and correctly lists the CD root. The problem occurs every time I put in a new CD, and even with the same CD if I open the tray and close it.

I'm using xplorer2 1.003 (English) on Win XP-H with SP1.

Thanks all.

I cannot reproduce that on XP-pro.

Does this still occur if you wait 5-10 seconds for the CD to spin-up & the OS shell to acknowledge its presence? (Look in the tree pane for the CD drive description to change to the volume serial number or label for the disk you put in.)

Hello and thanks for replying. The answer to your question:

No it doesn't. So is the problem because the system has not yet recognised the CD that has been put in? But then why do I see a listing of the CD root folder and *then* it goes to desktop? If it does not "see" the CD, the I shouldn't be getting the momentary folder listing, right?

@ is the problem ...
Yes.

@ why do I see ... - That's a good question.
Things get squirrely during transient conditions.
I suspect that it's a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, process-wise inside x2.
i.e.: I can imagine that a 'control' p/o of x2 may have found that the CD is not ready, and begun accumulating the information for showing the desktop (default place to show when folder not available), but before that is finished, a display p/o x2 gets the CD info & shows it briefly - before getting jerked to showing the desktop by the 'control'.

My 'solution' would be wait a few seconds until the CD has been recognised before using Ctrl+Shift+CDdriveLetter. :)
