Check duplicates - a bit flakey?

Post by joeking »

I had 2 folders, or rather a 2 pane scrap container into which I placed some files. The files where gathered from different folders. When i ran check duplicates on the scrap container it only selected 1 file. I had the checksum column showing in both scrap folder panes and visually I could see the checksums and the filenames matching but the selection was only of 1 file (or rather 2 files, 1 from each folder pane).

For checking duplicates, load all files in the same pane and then use the Duplicate checker.

The synchronization wizard command (CTRL+F9) requires identical folder structure in both panes. If the structures are not matching, it identifies the items as "undecidables" and attaches a red question-mark to their icons.

It isn't too clear that you have to have an identical file structure to check for duplicates.
I have some screen caps I have of a scrap pane.
(The files are of the amazing Milena Velba if you are interested).

The 2 panes contain files from different directories. I have a filter on for just milkor*.*

(I notice the preview pane has an update problem - adjust the splitter bars and it doesn't update properly)

I noticed that you have already used Duplicate checker (from its window bar). This works in a single scrap pane.

It does not work between opposite panes.

So all you have to do is to select all entries in any pane (CTRL+A) and drag them across to the other pane. This will add all the links to the second pane.

Now focus on this second pane and use the same command.

exactly right
dual panes are only useful for checking differences
for duplicates put everything in one pane (e.g. flatten a path)

2 pane scrap window - I have some links to files in zip files (cntrl+s to save the file from zip). I have the links in the first scrap panel. I cannot drag these links to the second panel.

Alt+c to copy the path to clipboard (this is a zip path - it has ::{guid watever}\\path - I can't import this to the other pane (actions/import clipboard)

in general scraps don't accept drops from zipfolders
the way ctrl+s works is kind of a quirk (also works for "flatten path" when you start from a zip root)

something for me to think about!
