I'm usually an "escapist" myself. And I missed a quick escape from search windows quite often.

On the other hand I once or twice lost an edited search result way back with 2x.

IMO the ideal solution for having both worlds (regardless of programming problems like always) would be having a little check box ("QuickEscape" or something) in the taskbar you can check if you're doing complicated file managing to keep and uncheck for normal quick actions.

Close Scrap -- Control-F4?

Post by dpupello »

Since the Scrap is a child(?) window of Xplorer2, why can't Xplorer2 use Control-F4 to close it -- as you do with an MDI program such as Microsoft Word?

You know, if Microsoft Word is running and you have 5 documents open, you just hit Control-F4 each time to close them. Once you reach the last open file, the Control-F4 only closes the last (child) document, not the entire program.

Some might say to use Control-W (which also closes a document in Word), but Control-W is already taken in Xplorer2. Control-F4 is not reserved -- as far as I can tell.

After testing, it seems that pressing Control-F4 in a scrap window acts just like F4, it edits the current file in Editor2.

Ah well, just a suggestion of a keystroke that could close a Scrap quickly, without confirmation, but also without too much danger of hitting it accidentally either :D

Ctrl+F4 is 'taken' by 'editing with Editor²' when an alternative editor is specified. Otherwise acts same as F4 as you have found.
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:
