but that's a different option;
they're talking about window contents during drag/drop not move/size window

No Nikos, it's exactly that option (show full window on drag/drop) what I'm talking about (and Vserghi too!). Controls whether you see the whole window rendered (which is slow) or only an outline showing you the position and size of your window (but everything inside the broder is transparent (which is fast).
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:

but that's for when you are moving the window itself!
does it affect drawing during drag/drop too?

Actually, it's not "window" contents but "selection" contents that are either:
* ON = all shown by name with selected color background in transparant mode, or
* OFF = a simple line-frame rendering without names. (least cpu strain).

I had not checked out the behaviour on w98 as I did on XP earlier.
When I did, I found different behaviour:

In w98, both winExplorer & xplorer2 highlight the destination properly
whether the "Show window contents while dragging" switch is ON or OFF.

But there Is another difference, regardless of that switch position:
winExplorer shows a line-frame of the selection being carried along,
whereas xplorer² shows only a tiny rectangle with the cursor. :shrug:

I don't know what the behaviour is on w2k. (I lost my access to that platform when I was "upgraded" to XP last summer.)
