I love this program and use it everywhere I go. I try to be up to date but at work I have version 1.0.0.2 and at home I have 1.0.0.3 and I have noticed something about the two version that really makes me wish I still had 1.0.0.2 at home as with ver 1.0.0.2 if I have a folder with a large number of sub-folders in it and I am on the one that starts with the letter 'm' when I go down a level then back up a level there that folder is, front and center, slected and ready to go back into - but with ver 1.0.0.3, when I go down a level then come back up the folder is no where to be seen. It is still highlighted, but the view is focused at the very top on the folder starting with the letter 'a' or the number '0' or something. If I hit an arrow key it will jump down to the area around the folder I was just in, or if I scroll down I will see the folder I was just in highlighted, but the view is not centered on it. Also on ver 1.0.0.2 I have two horizontal views and a tree and I do not keep the tree synchronized but if I select the top view then click on a location in the tree the top view goes there while in ver 1.0.0.3 if I click on the tree the top view, which is selected, does not move - I have to double click on the tree to get the top view to jump there. That on is not nearly as annoying as the first change, as double clicking is not that much work, but I have over 7000 Mp3's and they are organized by band and if I go into 'The Beatles' then go back up I am looking face to face with '38 Special' and having to scroll all the way down to the t's is annoying. Is this an accidental change, or is there a registry fix to return the 'views' of the previous version? Because I only went to ver 1.0.0.3 because I assumed it was better/more stable but in reality ver 1.0.0.2 never crashed on me and so If there is no way to fix it then I think I need to go back to 1.0.0.2 - or is this difference not related to the versions and being caused by something else I did?

basic views
It really doesn't matter what view I choose, if I have more items than will fit in the window then the view always centers on the top of the directory as if I just got there. the folder I was just in IS highlighted and IF I hit an arrorw key the view will center on the folder I moved to when I hit the arrow key, but the default action is to center on the top regardless of what view style I choose or what the name of the previous folder was. I cannot be sure but I noticed this change after upgrading to 1.0.0.3 and since I did not upgrade the system at work it still behaves the same way. Note - I have a dual boot system where I can choose win98 OR winXP and in the XP I upgraded to 1.0.0.3 but I did not upgrade the Win98. I have not tried this test IN 98 yet, but IF I go to the ver 1.0.0.2 exe in the win98 directory then I actually run 1.0.0.2 but it still acts the same. This may be because even though it is an older version it still uses what ever registry settings ver 1.0.0.3 set up. also, when I go to 'about' in ver 1.0.0.3 installed and running in XP I get a message pointing out 1.0.0.3 Unicode, but when I run ver 1.0.0.2, installed in Win98 but running in WinXP, 'about' gives me 1.0.0.2 Ansi? what is with the Ansi?

List & Detail display the correct folder in the list (and focus is on that folder).nikos wrote:Unless other people are seeing this for all view modes
Small Icons, Large Icons & Thumbnails display the list starting at the first folder, but focus stays on the correct folder.
This check was done with a 1000 folders on XP (and I'm not doing it again!!!!)

Nikos, this problem might have something to do with the limited number of locations remembered by X² when browsing to locations you have visited before. I reported this before (see X² has amnesia??), but couldn't persuade you then to do something about it.
Maybe now you can do something about it?

resolution, for now
I did it. I had ver 1.0.0.2 at work and I did not have the final install, only the xploere2 and the manifest. So I uninstalled 1.0.0.3 completely, but forgot to erase the registry settings. Then I rebooted and installed 1.0.0.0 and rebooted. I then copied the two files for 1.0.0.2 over top the 1.0.0.0 adn rebooted. I had to reset the customized tool bar but it seemed to remember that I wanted two horizontal windows with a tree on the left and a thumbnail below the tree. It also seemed to remember that I had registered it. Now when I do an about it says 1.0.0.2 unicode, as the install at work is also XP, and when I go up or down the view AND the focus show the previous folder. This is livable. Curious, what is the difference between 1.0.0.2 and 1.0.0.3?

Maybe it remembered the layout because I copied the manifest and that is where the layout is stored? But then why did it not remember the customized toolbar? and maybe the registered state is also inthe manifest? Or could that be in the Registry, which I meant to delete before reinstall but did not but the procedure worked so I did not have to repeat it w/ registry editing... Mine is not to revers engineer, just to enjoy. The beta version you have - when taht goes final, will it be a free upgrade to those of us who paid, or will we need to pay again? I used 2xexplorer because it was free and not microsoft and I enjoyed it but xplorer2 was so much better than that but the free version had no file search ability and w/o explorer as a shell hitting F3 did nothing so I HAD to register it to be able to search HD's. I use this at work and people bring in systems asking to back up all the '.xls' files before restoring it, or something like that. I can only hope you grant me access to the next version AND hope that the view and focus stay together.

The biggie difference is that v1003 resolved a compatibility issue with WMP9, where x2 would leave a thread open if a media file had been opened in the QuickViewer pane. Result was that x2 [1.0.0.2] would remain active in memory even if all its windows had been closed.
PS- I reinstalled 1.0.0.2 to see if I could reproduce your mis-focus display behaviour & I could not. But I did see some other anomalies which were identically the same between v1.0.0.2 & 1.0.0.3 & 1.0.0.96 ... and which depend on HOW you go up and down the folders. Specifically, if you do all navigating from the active pane without clicking in treepane, everything is hunky-dory. But... if you navigate to subfolders with treepane clicks, when going up from active pane with Backspace, the focused item will be what it was before & not the folder your were just in.
Can you describe EXACTLY how you navigate up & down -- it might help identify the issue.

1.0.0.2
1.0.0.2 did not have a navigation problem. when I went back to that version it behaved the way I wanted it to - The focus AND view stayed together. I would click on the tree to pick the starting point but I never set the tree to stay in synch. I then double click on a folder to go down and keep going down that way and the tree never changes as keeping it in synch did not work for me as I would soon have a tree so 'tall' I could not see any other 'drives' Kind of like in windows when you have a tree and you open windows then system32 the two togethor are so deep that all the other drives are pushed off the bottom and a scroll bar for the tree appears. To go back up I just double click on the white space between icons. That is one of the things I loved most about this. w/ 2xExplorer I had to go up and hit the little up arrow, just like windows explorer, but with xplorer2 I could navigate up and down while staying in my pane. This is why I never use details as details go all the way across and make it hard to navigate back up. This is also why the changes that 1.0.0.3 brought on to me was so annoying. I have folders w/ bands and if I found that I had two folders for the same band but on was misspelled then I would go into the one that was spelled worng and hit grey * then ctrl x then go up then go down the one spelled right then hit ctrl v then go back up and click on the now empty, bad folder and then hit delete. Only with ver 1.0.0.3 when I went back up the view was no where near the focus and I was suddenly handicapped.
