File moving and preview problem

Post by cenozoite »

Hi, I have a couple of quick questions/issues I'm hoping someone can help with:

1) Is there any way in Xplorer2 (or the old 2XExplorer) to set what the default action is for dragging and dropping a file into a folder? At present, dragging and dropping with the left mouse button automatically defaults to COPY, while using the right button gives you the sub-menu with the other optons. But, if I want to set it so that I can left-button drag-drop in one easy step and have the default action always be MOVE instead of COPY, is there a way I can change that?

2) The thumbnail/preview pane works for text, html, and even AVI files, but when I select a jpeg file it just shows the hexidecimal code for the file, instead of the picture itself. Why is that and how do I fix it?

In the old 2xExplorer, I could never get the thumbnail preview panel to work for ANY kind of file. It just stayed grey and blank all the time, even if I had a simple text file selected. I have checked out the help files and registry settings extensively, but nothing ever fixed it.

Please help if possible, thanks!!

AFIK, the default D&D for xplorer2, 2xExplorer & windoze Exploder are all the same - but it is conditional on destination/source relationship & on filetype. A partial summary is to
MOVE if on the same logical drive;
COPY if on different drives;
except for executables where a link (a.k.a. shortcut) is created at destination in some cases {but I haven't decoded when & when not}.

But, rather than fuss with that, the user can always modify the default each time with a keypress when dropping the file(s):
Ctrl+drop = COPY
Alt+drop = CREATE SHORTCUT
Shift+drop = MOVE

I know that didn't answer the question you asked, but it's what I do to avoid confusion. ;)

As far as thumbnails showing or not in xplorer², check the size limit you have for
Tools | Options... | General | Thumbnails
It's probably smaller than the size of the jpeg files that don't show in the quick viewer. (Set the value to 0 for no limit.)

and if you don't want the hex display for files, uncheck that option for the Quick viewer on the
Tools | Options... | Window tab
