Sticky/ Hover/ Single Click

Post by Gork »

I discovered this forum last night and was reading through a bunch of threads about "Sticky Selection." I've never had this work properly and finally decided to figure out for sure why. So, here's the deal...

If I activate "Single click activation" and "Hover selection" then try to activate Sticky nothing seems to happen. The checkmark doesn't appear on the menu, nothing. If I deactivate Single click and Hover then choose Sticky a checkmark appears and Sticky works just like I assumed it should. If I then activate Single and Hover the check mark remains on the menu for Sticky and things act weird until I turn Sticky back off. (By weird I mean that hovering won't select yet it does underline each file as the mouse cursor passes over it and also puts each item in a box.) I then turn off Sticky and everything returns to normal. Once again, though, I cannot activate Sticky.

I can see that Sticky mixed with Hover and Single would be pretty much worthless, and my question is: Is this by design or overlooked? It seems like, if Sticky isn't supposed to work with Single/Hover, that activating Single/Hover should turn off Sticky automatically.

Note that I did not try turning off one OR the other of Single and Hover to see what would happen.

While the design recognised the combination as worthless, it seems the settings verification logic missed catching the combination you found.
Good catch of a silly combo -- it should be easy for nikos to fix. ;)

hover selection is incompatible with sticky selection
when you enable it from tools | options you lose sticky

1. Welcome back, nikos.
I hope the long weekend was time well-spent. :)

2. re: Gork's observation ... Yes, hover is incompatible with sticky.
But he was merely pointing out that "sticky" doesn't get cleanly turned off for the reported sequence.
Things would look & feel more "Professional" if that loose end were tucked in so it didn't show. ;)
