If you download the full manual when installing x^2 backup your old manual, because if the download fails the old full manual will be erased. It will be fixed.

... so the suggestion for next level of sophistication of the installer would be perhaps ... ?

first rename x2docs.pdf (to x2docs_old.pdf) before it tries to download the latest,
or
download the latest to %TEMP% and not copy to the x2 installation folder until download is complete (a common download procedure).

The main idea was to rename it to x2docs.bak and if the download fails to remane it back to x2docs.pdf. I think that x2docs_old.pdf is better.
