xplorer2 version 1.1.0.1
On my Windows 98 SE, when I hit Shift+Delete button on the toolbar, instead of the expected delete action, another spacer is created on the toolbar. Each time I hit Shift+Delete, another spacer is created.
No big deal really because I can hit Shift+Delete on the keyboard, but anyway...
Another small question: I downloaded what I thought was the latest version the other day from the main website, but now I see that there is a version 1.1.0.2 on the mirrors.
Is this true or is it just that the wrong version is showing in Help/About?
Shift+Delete Bug?

Yes, it's usually okay to install over what's there BUT ...
You may want to hold off on trying to install the preview 1103 version that nikos posted a link to yesterday on the board.
While Nikos has said that it runs fine for him on w2000; there are reported problems with it not starting on win98, nt4 & XP. :(
You can use Help | Check for updates and get 1102 from the website.
( & in case you didn't figure out your original first question: Holding down "Shift" while clicking a Toolbar button is the intended keyboard shortcut for inserting a separator bar to the left of that button. It is not intended to be a modifier for the button.)

Hmmm. Well, that may be true for some of the buttons or most of the buttons, but if I hold the mouse over the Delete button and read the Tip on the Status Line at the bottom of the Screen, lo and behold, this is what it says:

Code: Select all
Send selected items to the recycle bin (<Shift> for permanent deletion)
So yes, I did figure it out. I learned that I have to use the Trash button because the Delete button doesn't behave exactly as advertised by it's Status Line Tip.

(Perhaps the Status Line is the unruly culprit here?)

As I recall, when this discrepancy was mentioned last spring, nikos apologised for using the same tooltip for both the menu command (where it is correct) and for the DEL button; he mentioned some kind of difficulty in separating them and indicated that folks would figure it out okay in spite of the mistip.9nine9 wrote:... if I hold the mouse over the Delete button and read the Tip on the Status Line at the bottom of the Screen, lo and behold, this is what it says:[/b]Code: Select all

Ah yes, laziness. I seem to have played with that dude too on the not so rare occasion. Anyway, like I said in my initial post on this topic, it's really no big deal and I appreciate you steering me towards the Trash button. I removed the big red X from the toolbar and am now content to live with the Trash.nikos wrote:it's more of a laziness issue ... i regret any inconvenience caused
And before I forget, what a great file manager this is. I had been using 2xExplorer for quite awhile and didn't think it could get any better than that, but alas...
