I don't want W.Explorer's Copy !

Post by GouGi »

Hi there !

I bought xplorer² in 2004's last hours because it seems to be the Explorer I always dreamt of (though I am sure I will not use half of its functions). But one thing makes me unhappy... May be Nikos or someone else has the asnwer (I looked in the FAQ & forums but was unable to find it myself...)

When I was using Window's Explorer, I installed a small (strictly Frenchspeaking) freeware called SuperCopier : its purpose is to replace Explorer's CopyFile system. It works supernice, you may pause the transfer, set the Xfer rate and so on and so on. Very useful to me !

But since I use xplorer², every time I copy or move a file, it uses the much hated (by me) Windows functions. I don't know how SuperCopier intercepted the Copy/Paste/Move files commands of the Explorer, but it seems xplorer² don't bother to check if the user has not replaced them but something else.

Please, someone, make my day, tell me how to fix it !

Best wishes for 2005 anyway !

since version 1.1 xplorer2 has its own copy functions (F5 command)
it is only when you use drag-drop that it falls back to explorer
(there you should be able to mimic whatever windows explorer does)

Thanks for your answer, but I'm not sure I understand it (or maybe I did not make myself clear in the first place). I do not want to fall back to explorer ! For instance, when I drag&drop files from one hard disk to the other, I want SuperCopier (in my case) to kick in, I do not want W.Explorer to perform the copy itself.

xplorer² own copy functions are fine, but not as fine/powerful IMHO as SuperCopier's ones, and you have to explicitly ask for them, whereas a drag&drop seems to me the most natural way to move/copy files.

were you able to use this supercopier with any other file manager? I don't know how it works. Perhaps you can try dragging with the right mouse button

Actually, I don't use any other file manager than Windows' & yours. And dragging with the right mouse button is not what I wish to do (neither the way SC works). I just want a regular drag&drop to work with xplorer² the way it works with windows explorer !

How it works : I don't know exactly neither. For what I gather, it kind of hooks Windows Explorer copy/move functions. So that when (in WE) you perform a drag & drop (or a copy-paste of a file), SC comes up and controls the copy/move operation. Unfortunately, I am unable to find an English-speaking equivalent tool for you to have a look...

Maybe I'm talking nonsense, but in my mind, the ideal x² should look up if something intercepts WE's drag&drop file operations and "call" this something for its own d&drop file operations.

Let's hope I made myself clear this time...

unfortunately x2 cannot try to figure out what hacks each program is doing on explorer. Windows shell has a quite clean and well documented architecture to allow legitimate extensions (e.g. right-drag handlers as i mentioned).

you should drop this one to the other program's doorstep ...

It might be a nice idea to implement copy/move features like that to xplorer2 (eg pause, remember and resume later, undo move in case of error). I never thought about it, but it sounds ok. I think I would use these functions.

Hi all and Nikos in particular,
I have the same problem and found something pretty strange.
In fact supercopier works great with xplorer2 lite 1.2.0.0 but doesn't with the pro version.
I don't know what is the difference between the two ones regarding the call to winexplorer copy function but There definitely is at least one.

I'll provide as much tests as you want to if needed, or if you want to test it yourself, here is the site of the knew version of supercopier :

Ok,
the solution have been found by the supercopier devs, they had "problems" with the Upcase letters ... so by lowercasing actual xplorer2_uc it works and it will work without renaming in next release

See you

does this thing come in english? :)

actually i managed to get an english version running
looks snazzy but does it have any real advantage on x2's robust copy other than fancy grafix?

In fact, I personaly find it a bit faster.
An other thing that is good too is the fact that when one list of copy has begun, you can add files at the end.
It handles greatly the errors and can, for exemple, begin by putting files at the end of the list when an error is found to retry it latter.

And something that can be great with new sata drive is that it now doesn't use windows disk cache anymore (so the NCQ can here be used because some access are driven by windows and others by supercopier and all that simultaneously).

If you want more details, you can ask the dev or I can try to translate a little more its capabilities. (I'm french but try to always improve my english, and thinking english is easier than translating   )

for a translation of the fist page : http://supercopier.sfxteam.org/modules/ ... ng=english

Just to add an other thing that is friendly,
with it we can do copy and move with a drag and drop, like I but surely others too do.

See you
