drag and drop works intermittently

Post by thos »

When dragging a file or files to another folder, sometimes the move does not work. In this instance, when dragging the files over other files, the other files get highlighted and I am unable to drop the original files into the other folder. Other times, the files can be dragged into the other folder as expected. This has been occurring for several months. I have maintained the latest version, currently Pro v 1.1.0.3  I have tried both left button down and right button down. Both work as advertised sometimes but not all the time.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

the windows shell model allows files to be valid drop targets (e.g executables, zips etc) as well as folders

you just have to pick your targets right

if you want to drop on the folder you are browsing, either find a blank spot or on the titlebar and release the mouse button there

To nikos: I am sorry but I do not understand how your response answers my question. It seems to address the issue of drag and drop not working at all. My problem is that drag and drop works intermittently.

I think there might be some confusion here. Let me have a stab at it :)

thos, I suspect you have the pane in detail view mode (with full row selection)? You are probably selecting one or more files and then try to drag the selected file(s) to the other pane.
When you start the drag action, make sure you click on a filename of one of the selected files and not next to it!!
Clicking on an empty spot within the selected items (not on the name of a file I mean) triggers the lasso selection mode. Do you see a lasso forming when you try to drag? And at the same time files you hover over with the mouse get selected?

If yes, then your problem is solved. If not we have to investigate further...

Let us know if this resolves your problem please.

To JRz, yes, without realizing it that is exactly what I was doing, i.e., starting the drag at a location close to the file name but not on the file name.  When I start the drag on a file name, the drag and drop works perfectly. I was not aware of the lasso selection mode. Thanks.
