Are you in detail view? If this is the case, you need to look at the file "registry.txt" in the folder where X2 is installed.  There is an option to enable/disable this. Look for the string "binMiscOptions".

If this is not the case, ignore the tip.

Regards.

I have no problems switching between tabs, whether by
Ctrl+Alt+Left or by Ctrl+Alt+Right keycombo(*) or by
just clicking on the one I want next on top (except for the tab already on top in the INactive pane -- where one must either click on the titlebar or in the pane itself)

Can you provide any more detail?
- how many tabs on each pane?
- do any of them work?
- have any worked before?

(*) excpt the CAL/CAR keycombos won't work when 'focus' is in addressbar, nor will they switch between panes -- simply use Tab for that.

[edited after I figured out what you meant by CAL & CAR ...]

It hasn't worked at all.
I'm in a pane with 3 tabs (I selected a file to make sure that the pane was active) and when I hit CA-left or right nothing happens.

chances are that you have a shortcut on your desktop or some other running program that "eats" these keys so x2 cannot see them. These are hard to trace; some user has posted a little script that could help with desktop shortcuts (please use this forum's search facility to locate it)

I have the PC mag prog and did a search but nothing there.  I also killed my macro prog (after searching for triggers that match) to make sure that wasn't interfering as well.

Is there a way to back up my setup and changes?  I'll do a reistall and see if that fixes it...

if you want to preserve the x2 settings just export the main registry key (see registry.txt) and reinstate it later

but i'm almost certain that uninstalling won't change anything
the "proof" of the hypothesis would be finding a program that uses the same shortcut CA+arrow: i bet it won't work there either!

You're right.  I cant get Quick Macros to use either of them either.   RATS.....I'll have to startup in safe mode to try it...
