Sorting files & folders

Post by Darren »

Maybe I'm a bit slow discovering this, but......
There's a function in TweakUI I'd never noticed before to get Windows Explorer to sort files 'intuitively'.
What these means is that if you have files named, for example, file_8, file_9 & file_10, Explorer sorts them in numerical order (previously it would sort them as file_10, then file_8, then file_9).

Does anyone know if there's a way to get xplorer2 to duplicate this? Even with the Explorer function turned on it still sorts them out of 'natural' numeric order.

Thanks,
Darren

PS Maybe Windows Explorer has sorted files like this for a while and I've never noticed. Since I discovered 2xExplorer I've virtually never used it.

Windows started doing the intuitive sort as the default beginning with XP.
& now x2 can do it, too -- but you need to set a registry value to accomplish this.
see registry.txt for version 1103  :D

The new x2 v1.1.0.3 addresses this with a registry setting. This is called lexicographical sorting (as opposed to numerical sorting).

Refer to the new User Manual (also v1.1.0.3) for details.

This is called a "persistent design bug" and is #4 on TOG's 10 most wanted. Nice to know Windows is doing something about it, even better x2 apparently has, too.
