sum of sizes of files in current directory on status bar

Hi!

I bought xplorer2 and I really love it. A thing that bothers me though is that I miss the total size of the current directory. I expect it to be on the status bar, but it isn't there. It's also not in the options to switch it on. I know I can hit a button that shows me a lot more than only the total size of the current dir, but it would be easier to have that on the status bar. (Only the size of all the files in the current dir. Not the subdirs).

Will this be implemented?

Am I the only one who wants this?

In trying to minimize clutter on the statusbar, it was decided a while back to not show this info as the default. However, as you mention, the user can see the total size of all files in the folder with a keystroke: Ctrl+A

If you can argue for a functional need (vs. cosmetic nicety) you might be able to turn nikos around on this.

my standard reply to this question is, in the rare occasions when you need to check the total size, just select everything with <ctrl+A>

Why not make the result of control-A the default? I don't see less clutter in eg "5 item(s)" than in "5: 8,5 mb". Or make it an option for the user to choose.

Reason for me: I copy files a lot through a LAN and from disk to disk. It would give me an impression of what I am going to do. Also: it shows if there are any strange files in a dir. Sometimes you "know" that though there are a lot of files in a particular dir, the total size should be small. If it is very large, then you know certain files need attention. (dirs with log files)

It would even be easier not to count the dirs with it. A dir with 4 files and 2 sudirs should look like this:
4: 3,5 mb

Why not make the choice to the user? For me, for example, this is not clutter.

the problem with it is not clutter, it is mainly reading speed
when you read a large or remote folder, x2 takes care only to fetch info that is immediately visible in the window. Calculating the total size will hit performance.

but i suppose as an option it makes sense for users that won't mind the delay

But the request (as I read it) was only for size of all files in the current directory; which should only be a calculation from data already being read for display in the window.
However, I agree that getting size of full subdirectory content can be very time consuming.

PS: I would also appreciate the feature of showing the size of all files by default, as a value-added convenience.

PPS: I'm glad to see you've abandoned your clutter-reduction defense on this. But I guess that has been slowly eroded with the addition of things like size remaining on drive, etc. ;)

A very good idea to show the sum of all files in the stats bar (it is one thing I miss really from windows explorer).

And if you really want to reduce clutter in the statusbar, remove the date and time info of the selected file. At least when viewing in details mode.
This info makes the statusbar hard(er) to read. Only when viewed icon or list mode this info could be useful.

No, you aren't. This is the only thing I don't really like at xplorer². In this case I like the behaviour from the Windows-Explorer.

I also miss the total size of files in the opened folder displayed in the bottom pane. In fact, I keep using the older 2xExplorer because it has this function.

So I would like to know, what is the status of the request to reintroduce this feature, as discussed above? Can this feature be reintroduced by a registry tweak or should we expect a software update?

I would really appreciate some way of activating this feature to work BY DEFAULT in the freeware version of Xplorer2 as I find it perfectly adequate for my home usage.
