1. I can't use a bookmark when X2 is at a Web Folder location. I have to manually change my location to a drive (either local or network) for the bookmark to work. Also clicking on the title bar of the pane does not change folders - (Status bar states "The CPU could not make any sense of the last input)
2. When navigating to a Web Folder I get the "Copying ..." dialog box. I assume it is only retrieving the file and folder information. One could interpret the dialog box as if it is mirroring the remote site.
I'd like to help, but not having ever used them either, I'm not qualified; furthermore, I wonder if I want to try using them -- especiallly after a quick search to learn what I might be missing; and finding this article, which suggests using the Mozilla webBrowser instead of IE.
(Personally, for collaborative work if contributors cannot be on same LAN/WAN, I think I'll just stick with email and/or ftp)
PS - I may reconsider if I ever have the need, based on the more positive outlook at WebDAV.org and their FAQ posting, etc.
i've managed to install a webfolder on my w2000
what crap implementation by m$!
to get basic information like size/date the whole file is downloaded (that's why you see those file copy dialogs)
preview doesn't work, and all is muddled
basically the only tolerable use for the moment is to have these folders in plain list view (no details) and sort by name so that at least they'll load "fast". Copy/paste/del seem to work
in the meantime i'll see if things can be improved, but i ain't optimistic...
I think the first issue I pointed out in the original post is more significant:
When a pane is at a web folder, invoking an X2 bookmark does not work at all. Even typing a local path in the folder bar does not work. Neither does clicking on the Drive button.
The only thing I have found that works is clicking on a local drive in the tree.
sadly, bookmarking is just about all that works in there, the rest are full of intermittent errors or large delays... FTP folders work much better with x2, although themselves leave much to be admired
XP must be doing it differently then
when you are in the root webfolder, does it work typing relative subfolder names in the addressbar ?
in 2000 i can type c:\temp while in a webfolder and it works fine
a workaround for "escaping" is to press <ctrl+backspace> which will take you to the desktop
i'll have to look into the XP thingy then, if i manage to install webfolders there!
