Using a different, presumably darker, background color to designate THE inactive pane seems like a novel, good idea.
However, using use a black background color scheme presents a problem: you can't make black darker. You can only make it lighter. Your inactive pane can only look lighter, and your active one darker. That that background color setting is the only way to distinguish one from the other gives you no choice but to make your inactive pane lighter.
This is an real annoyance.
Suggestions. 1. Add a background color setting for both the inactive and active panes.
2. Use the normal Windows color scheme colors for child title bars for the pseudo title bar with the path in each pane.
3. Use different highlight colors for the selected items in each window. I use a bright red for selected items, which quickly gets attention. I see the same bright red in both the inactive and active panes. It shouldn't work that way. The one in the inactive pane should be grayed some way.
