Exit error revisited

Post by bhbmnc »

I haven't seen any discussion lately on the intermittent error on exiting xplorer2 about "can't write to storage location..." that was thought at one time to have something to do with IZArc.  Has everyone else figured out how to avoid this or what is causing the conflict?  I've just learned to live with it, but would like to know if there is a solution or circumvention.

I'd be glad to furnish any information that would be helpful, but have not been able to identify any pattern as to when it occurs and don't seem to be getting any logs produced.  I have lately started getting the message in 2 message boxes that are different in appearance.  I know Nikos has not seen it, so it's kind of hard for him to fix it (if it's even an xplorer2 problem).  It's just that that's the only time ever I get the messages.  It's probably something else I have running that's causing the conflict, but was wondering if anyone else has figured out what it is.

up to now I know of 2 types of crash:
* IZArc
* (attempting) drop on empty CDRW

are there any new culprits?

I have IZArc as well as TUGZip and Filzip installed.  Does IZArc create a problem if it is just installed, but not used, because I have had that error at times when I have only used one of the other 2 zip programs since opening xplorer2.  Would it be of any help if I sent a screenshot of the 2 type error messages I get?  One of the messages says xplorer2 has caused a problem and will terminate (which is what I had just done) and that a log will be created, but I have never been able to find that log.  I get one or the other of these messages about 1 out of every 4 or 5 times I close xplorer2.  I never drop anything on the CDRW, so that is not what is causing my errors.

even if you don't use IZArc, it only takes one context menu (right-click on a file), and you're busted!

Are you saying one context menu click of any kind while IZArc is installed, even if it's not a right click on IZArc will cause the message when I eventually exit xplorer2?  You're not saying that even if I uninstall IZArc, I still won't be able to do context menu functions, are you?  In other words, is what you just said only true if IZArc is installed?  Thanks.

if you uninstall IZArc, the crash problem should go away... or let me know!
whenever you right-click on a x2 item, IZArc extension dll is loaded, so the damage is done

Thanks, Nikos.  That may solve my problem.  I had kept IZArc installed while I was evaluating the other two so I could compare function, but I'll get rid of it.

Hi,

I believe I was the one that originally reported the IZArc problem. See thisthread for more info. Unfortunately, this problem still exists in the latest beta release of IZArc.

bhbmnc, you don't need to uninstall IZArc (unless, of course, you want to !) to get rid of this problem, you can simply disable IZArc's shell extension using ShellExView.

Thanks, Mario.  That's a good idea.
