image dimension

Post by lian »

Hello,
I use to manipulate a lot of images and I have to know quickly the dimensions they have. Is there a way to see them in a list mode by example? (for the moment I click right on them, I have a sofware that gives the dimensions but I had preferred something in x²plorer).

In details view, use Select columns... (Alt+K)
choose Dimensions from the Available columns,
and add it to the current scheme.

If you would like to use the list view, you can use View ==> Toolbars ==> Infobars.  Right-Click on the toolbar and select Alt+K.  Choose the Dimensions column.  When you hover your move over a file you should see that dimensions on the infobar.

However, you get the same information anytime, if you have the infotips on and you hover you mouse.

You strategy you might consider if you like to view images in List Mode is to rename your images and append the dimension to the name. Using MassRename...  if the following naming convention:

$B_${Dimensions}.$E

Your images will have the Height & Width appended to the name.  Hope this helps.

List view is the one I prefer so I tried the solutions brought by ricmarte. Infotips on is a good tip but it seems to work only with the first pane.
I did not manage to use the Alt+K tip.
View->toolbar-->infobar is selected but with rightclick on the toolbar I have no Alt+K selection possible ???

My apologies.  I did not clarify which toolbar I was refering to.

Here are the instructions again:

If you would like to use the list view, you can

1) Click on View ==> Toolbars ==> Infobars.
2) When the Infobar is visible, Right-Click on the infobar.
3) A menu will popup that reads, "Select Columns  Alt+K".  Select that option. It should be the only option available, right now.
4) The "Column Customization" window will pop up. Choose the Dimensions column.  Then click OK.
5) Now, when you hover your mouse over a file or when you select a file, you should see that dimension information on the infobar.

My other point however, was that if you turn on infotips you get that information by simply hovering your mouse over the file.  The infotips may not be working for you on the second pane because you may not have the "hover" selection turned on (checked) under options.

The benefit of the infobars over the infotips is that the infomation (i.e., dimensions) for a selected file remains visible on the infobar, even after the pane loses focus.  This is useful if you are comparison two files in different folders.

Hope that helps!

Thank you for help...but right click on info bar gives nothing (the info bar is the bar at the bottom of x²plorer with information about number of files and so on?).
I've got the 1.1.0.3 [Unicode] version of x²plorer

You are talking of "Status Bar". The Info Bar is a new element implemented from version 1.1.0.90.

It is like a single-record folder pane that is permanently set in Details mode. A Info Bar is attached to the bottom of the regular folder pane.

You can show/hide one or both the Info Bars.

Please download the latest version and then try again.

i can't find this Dimensions column on w2000. Is it an XP thing or something that some shell extension (pixvue?) has added to the system?

It's not on my XP at work, so I suspect it is PixVue metadata.
(I have PixVue [www.pixvue.com] installed at on my home machine.)

I have xnView and Irfanview installed on my system.  I am not sure what added those columns.  I just assumed they were part of winxp.
