Save a commander layout?

I like to use the dual pane view (without the tree display) to move files around. I find that I tend to move files back and forth between the same directories and would like a quick and easy way (similar to bookmarks) to not only navigate a pane to a location, but to have each pane navigate to different locations with one click or keystroke.

Is there an easy way to do that using the current facitlities of xplorer? If not is this something that can be added?

Have you tried looking at creating a new tab or a group of tabs? You can create a bunch of tabs, save them as a folder group and assign a key sequence to them.

I have but this suffers from the same limitation as bookmarks. The tab group will apply itself to only one pane of a dual pane view at a time. I want a way with one keystroke or mouse click to display the dual pane view and have each pane display a folder of my choosing.

As it is now I have to select a dual pane layout. Then select a bookmark for the first pane to navigate to a folder. Then I need to select the other pane, and finally click on another bookmark to navgate to its folder.

I am looking for a way to do the above in one keystroke or click instead of the 4 steps required above.

such dual-bookmarks are not available but you can work around this as such:

* create a folder called "dual bookmarks" or whatever
* for each set of folders, create a shortcut to the xplorer2 executable (you can copy/paste the one provided by the installer on the desktop or quickstart guide)
* edit the properties of said shortcut and add command line arguments as such:

Code: Select all

c:\path\x2.exe /T c:\path1 d:\path2

checkout the quickstart guide for the meaning of this

* repeat as necessary for all your dual bookmarks
* set a real bookmark on this "dual bookmarks" folder

a bit of a bother to setup initially but then you can have 3 key access to them folders (one to get to "dual bookmarks", 1 to locate the shortcut and one for <enter>)

another possibility:

setup a folder group with the folders you want
then restore it
press ctrl+I to send one of the folders to the other side
click on the other tab

this is a little easier

Or use a third party macro program (my favourite is Autohotkey) to assign a hotkey to the necessary actions.
