"Save program state on exit" Means what?

Post by ghardenbrook »

I want to open the program with the tree expanded as it was when I left.  Is this not the option for setting this preference?  Doesn't do it!

Save program state on exit saves window & pane size/position and which folder(s) are displayed in the folder panes.
The tree pane comes up unexpanded by default unless you have selected the Tree option to "Keep synchronized with folder in active view pane"
(under Tools | Options... | Window )

Tried that setting but the tree still opens compressed.

By design, x2 will only open far enough to show the folder in the active view pane (not its subfolders).
... extreme case is when the active pane is viewing the desktop: then the tree will show only the one-line special "desktop" folder.

PS: To manually open a tree branch ALL the way use Alt+rightarrow when in the tree pane.

What I want is to see  the C:\ drive expanded in the left pane when I open Xplorer.  I recall that in Windows Explorer I had to use a command line switch to accomplish this.

There must be some way to do it here, yes?  I've been using Lite for some years now and would be disillusioned to find anything that Windows can do better!!

If I recall correctly, that behaviour was judged to be distracting clutter by the author from discussion during early development.

So nikos designed x2 to be "better" in the sense of simpler, with minimal clutter -- especially since the next level in the tree is displayed in the active pane, so the argument was against providing redundant display of those folders in the tree.

But I sense it is not "better" for you because you are comfortable with the m$oft approach.

(And you are not entirely alone; as I recall a few others wanting to see at least one-level more expansion of the tree.)

OK, I understand that.  So the way to see the c: tree initially is to find and open the sub-folder of interest in the active pane.  Can't complain about that I guess.  I'm a creature of habit.

Thanks for your help.

But that doesn't show the whole tree -- just the first level branches.
To see the entire C: tree enter Alt+rightarrow with focus in tree on C:

However, that's something few would want.
The issue was where to draw the line, & nikos chose the minimalist location, as I tried to describe above. ;)
