This is either a bug or a bad annoyance :)
I have the latest 1.2 version. I use 3 panels...
So the left panel is for the directories....middle is for subdirs/files...
I select a folder on the left panel by clicking it with my mouse.
By habit, I then may select multiple file in the middle panel (those i want to delete) by using the mouse and holding down the left click button while selecting files...
If I then press delete, the FOLDER deletes...because it is still selected!!
What should happen is as soon as I start selecting items in the middle panel, the selected folder in the first panel should lose focus....in the sequence I noted, it does not lose focus..
Thx...Jeff

thx...I was set that way but it didn't help - the directory folder is still "selected".fgagnon wrote:This has been mentioned before, and you are right.
Presently the surest way to avoid this is to set the Tree option for
Single click to change folder & "hands free" activation
via Tools | Options... | Window dialogbox.
PS - the issue exists in the Pro version, also.
BUT, if I also click Automatically shift focus to view after activation, that works...now I have to see what other ramifications that option has!!
<edit> ok, now the opposite happens...as the focus is never on the folder unless I right click it!! </edit>

Yes, you need both
(I forgot to mention the latter, because I have it always set).
FYI - my personal preference is to have the following settings:
Single click to change folder & "hands free" activation [off]
and
Automatically shift focus to view after activation [ON]
and have trained myself to recognize when the focus is not in the fileview pane so as to not delete its folder by mistake.

It's more than that. AFAIK 'Lasso selection' is the official term used by Microsoft to indicate that way of selecting files by dragging over items, creating a 'selection area' while in the process.jasinwa wrote:happens on all 4 pc's at home for me...
That's a good word "lasso" :) It makes sense as to the process....

This issue is killing me....
On my home network, I was going to delete a file on my son's PC from my desktop, and as it happens every now and then, the lasso didn't work and the whole directory was deleted.
For some reason, I couldn't find it! It wasn't on his system delete folder, nor mine!!
I have to test more but unfortunately will now have to remove this program....which otherwise I really liked!
Will check back every now and then to see if the issue can be resolved.
Thank you!
Jeff

Diid you mean that you deleted some item in a remote PC (PC accessible from your Network Neighborhood) and then didn't find it in the Recycle Bin of either PC?For some reason, I couldn't find it! It wasn't on his system delete folder, nor mine!!
That is standard Windows behavior: Once you delete something on a remote PC, you cannot retrieve it.

however it can become much worse (deleted a folder instead of a file) due the xplorer2 behaviour of not handling the "lasso" well....
oh well, thx!
