Set Xplorer2 as default - compiled solution

Post by eyals »

Running through the answers to one of the most requested feature, I came up with a set of registrey key that helps setting Xplorer2 as the default explorer, as well as restoring to default.

http://www.designer.co.il/downloads/xpl ... efault.zip

This zip includes 3 files:
1-Add Right-Click function.reg - Adds "Xplorer2" to the right-click menu of folders, directories, and drives (That includes "My Computer", "My Documents, etc.)

2-Register Xplorer2 as default - Sets Xplorer2 as the default action when double-clicking any folder/drive...

3-Restore to windows explorer - Restore the double-click function to Windows Explorer, but keeps the right-click option.

For those of you who are affraid of registrey keys (and you should be) - you are welcome to open it with notepad and see that it doesn't set your homepage to my siteor anything

Your reg zip causing me a problem

Post by cielo »

Hope you can help me.

I used your helpful reistry mods but I am having a problem.  If I click on a livk to a folder I am asked via a dialog which application/program to use to open.  I am not offered the "Always use this....", it is greyed out.  Also the right click context menu choice is offerd "XPlore..." but likewise I am asked which program to use to open.

In both cases I have browse to right program but it still wont default to the program on subsequent clicks.

I noticed that UC was in the value and as per registry.txt I removed it.

Can you offer any help with this problem.  It's such a nice program I really would like it to work properly.

Sorry to bother,

Alan

as you may know i'm working on v1.3 as we speak
one of the things i'll add will be an installer option that will add x2 in the shell context menu for all folders. Hopefully this will take away the need for all these registry mods

you have to add two backslashes for all your paths e.g.

@="C:\\DOCUME~1\\umeca74\\MYDOCU~1\\cpp\\kenny\\Debug\\kenny.exe /F:1 \"%1\""

Heureka...afters years of testing...ok, just some minutes :P

Now it works. As default and in right click on a german system with the lite-Version.

Same thing, but you use "xplorer2_lite\explorer2.exe" instead of my "xplorer2\xplorer2_UC.exe", right?

Hi. Thanks for this, it works just fine.

However I've got another question : I always use the keyboard shortcut WIN+E to open Windows Explorer. It's a fast and very convenient way to open a new explorer window from any programm I'm in.
So my question is : is there a way to make this shortcut open X2 instead of explorer.exe ?

Thanks for this app.

It's not exactly what I had in mind, since WinKey only allows you to add new WIN-key shortcuts; you can't change the existing WIN-key shortcuts. I was thinking of a solution that would change the existing WIN+E shortcut without using an additional application (by changing the registry or something). I heard somewhere that it was possible, but I don't know how... So if anybody knows, I'd be glad to learn that.

In the meantime, I think WinKey will do the trick.  :)

I am using the registry files (1 and 2)  from the first post but they still don't stop Explorer from appearing all the time.

For example I am using Logitech software that has My Video, My Documents and My Music buttons associated with dedicated buttons on my keyboard. When I click on these I still get explorer.

I know there are other ways to fix this particular problem but is there something else I can do to make xplorer2 the default?
