pane suggestions

Post by brown705 »

One thing that I find annoying with the single/dual panes is this: When switching to single pane from dual pane, the pane that remains is ALWAYS the pane on the left (vertical mode).  I think it would be more useful if the pane that remains would be whichever pane is active.

Also, a toolbar button to swap the panes would be nice.  This could even solve the above issue, where if I wanted the right pane to remain when switching to single-pane view, I could quickly click the SWAP button and then the DUAL button to keep the right pane.

there's no button but you can use <ctrl+U> to swap panes (goto menu)

Thanks for telling me about the swap panes function, Nikos.  That does help.  It sure would be nice to have that available as a toolbar button, though.

nikos,

There is something in Ctrl+U that makes it useless for me as a preparation for switching to the right pane as the only pane: Ctrl+U just swaps the active tabs in the two panes, not the panes with all their tabs.

Is it something in my setup, or is this a feature?

And for that future version, where you have implemented your proper pane-swapping, don't forget the underlying request: when changing to single-pane view, that it should be the currently active pane that is viewed, and toggling back to dual pane should bring the former inactive pane back in the same position that it had been (left or right).
This has been requested many times by a number of users.
Of course all the associated tabs should be included to be consistent with the above discussion.

PS - I don't know the details of your current implementation; but I think of the process as temporarily hiding the inactive pane with its tabs, and then retrieving it in toto when going back to dual.
