I've searched the docs and boards but can't seem to locate info on this problem. I'm using x2lite 1.2.0.1 but had this same problem in the earlier version. When moving a file/directory, the Read Only attribute is set. When I go into properties to remove the attribute it appears to take but when I close it's reset so I can't open the directory or make changes.
Why does this happen and is there a fix?
Read Only Attribute Set after MOVE

I cannot reproduce this with x2 Lite v1302 on win-XPsp2.
...nor do recall having seen it on earlier versions, except when transferring files from RO media (like CDROM), then the items transferred keep their ReadOnly property by default.
Can you provide some detail that might help define the particular situation where the problem occurs for you? Like: source/destination locations, media involved, your OS, did it ever work OK, etc?

It has always changed to Read Only status with a move/copy, regardless of media. I've had to delete files after copying because I couldn't open them or change status. On one occasion recently I was able to change the Read Only status so thought it was fixed but the problem occurred again.
I also had problems when trying to rename files in the old version, also getting an access denied message. At least that works in this version.
The directory was being moved up one level on the same hard drive partition, as the parent directory was mistakenly created twice. OS is XPsp2 also. Hmmm, I thought I had the latest light version. Will have to look again.

Can you move/copy items with no problem using windows Explorer?
What move/copy method are you trying? [d&d ... F6/F5+dialogbox ... other]
What are your usage permissions for the items in question?
r-click ... properties | security | <youraccountname>
Are you using a shell namespace extension or other winExplorer substitute?

I haven't used Windows Explorer in years so had to do some testing. What I found is that when I create a new folder it is defaulting to Read Only and I have no idea why. Then after moving the Read Only folder I am unable to open it. I get an access denied error message. So, the problem isn't just x2lite.
In x2lite I usually use F6 (icon on menu) to move files. I tested the copy (F5) and when copying a file the Archive attribute is added but not the Read Only. I created a new folder and copied a test file to it. The folder gained a Read Only flag but the test file worked fine.
I then tried to remove the Read Only attribute by clicking on Properties and unselecting that box and click Apply. I was asked whether to apply to just the folder or subfolders also. I selected the later. Received the error, access denied. I closed and went back to the folder properties screen, Read Only was still selected. I unselect and when prompted, select only this folder. Click Apply. Appears to take but after saying OK and checking properties again, I see the read only is still there.
Attempted to open the test file in this folder again, but this time I get access denied.
I do not have a Security tab when clicking on Properties, but am using Administrator account.
No other substitute. Previously I used PowerDesk but removed it long ago as it would crash constantly on this pc. I replaced it with x2lite.
If you have any ideas of the cause of this problem, even though it doesn't now appear to be specific to x2lite, I'd appreciate your help. Thank!
