Network authentication

With Windows Explorer, when accessing a network share in which the current user does not have authentication, Windows Explorer will supply an authentication dialog box giving you the chance to type in a username and password, along with a "Remember my password" checkbox.

When doing the same with xplorer2 Lite, I get a short timeout and a message in the status bar stating, "The CPU cannot make any sense of the last input".

Is it possible to make xplorer2 provide the authentication box as the Windows Explorer does? It is merely an annoyance to have to run the Windows Explorer to authenticate to the network share when this occurs and then switch back to xplorer2 to bypass this, but isn't convenience part of why we are using xplorer2 over Windows Explorer?

as far as i know accessing remote folders using \\pc\share\ as a path will ask for credentials, if necessary. The only problem i know of is some mapped network drives that are set to be delay-activated

The most common occurrence of this issue for me is when I access the administrative share (c$) of a domain computer from my laptop, which is NOT joined to the domain, using UNC as you said in your reply (\\workstation\c$). There is no sort of activation delay as far as I know, and I would be the only one here to set up such a thing.

i can't say i've tested cross-domains but when i try accessing shares like c$ in our network i do get a login/access dialog, you are saying that you don't get one or that it doesn't work?

Correct. It works if I have already authenticated using the Windows Explorer during that session (between reboots), and it always goes through if I previously authenticated and checked the "Remember my password" checkbox. But if I have not done either of these against a network share, then when I try to browse a share using UNC, I hear the Windows "Exclamation" sound and sometimes I see the message I mentioned before. BTW, this is Windows XP SP2, fully patched.
