Takes a long time to locate a remote folder

Hi,

I've just started using xplorer Lite, so far I'm very impressed. However, I've found a annoyance when connecting to a folder on a remote server; it takes several minutes to update the display.

I guess the reason is that each folder level is fully scanned before moving down the tree, and the remote site I'm connecting to has several dozen PCs connected to the network, and 50+ sub-folders in the root of the server I'm connecting to. I notice Win Explorer deals with this by updating the majority of the tree after displaying the target folder.

I'm using a 500Kbs broadband connection over a VPN, and speed does not otherwise seem to be a problem, also once connected everything works as it should, it's only the initial (bookmarked) connection that takes time.

Any suggestions?

Assuming you have it selected,
UNselect "Infotips for items" on Tools | Options... | Window

That feature is known to slow down x2 for display of network items (makes my VPN connection totally unusable if I have it selected).

Infotips was unselected anyway, but I went through all the other options and set the settings to ask for as little information as possible. This gets the display back up to a good speed.

I then switched on (or off) the various options and observed the effect. It seems the big problem is tree display; if the 'Keep synchronised' option is switched on the display is very slow, with it off (and infotips off) the display is fine. Similarly using Alt+T (find in tree) once the folder is displayed is equally slow on first use.

I guess my solution is not to syncronise the display unless I have to ... unless there is any other workaround.
