X2 lite, does it have a "call home" or DNS server

Post by randye »

HI, I've been using 1.1.0.1 for some time now on XP pro, and just love it. javascript:emoticon(':D')
Way better than any other file manager I've tried. But, I do have one concern. Today, I was browsing a file with X2 Lite, an outgoing networking  packet triggered my ISP dialer, and Netscape to come to life, and the fire wall said the UPD request came from X2 Lite, and denied the outgoing request.  javascript:emoticon('')
Shocked
The destination IP Adress  was: 64.136.164.46   port 55
a whois said it was an org call Computer Comfort.  Needless to say, I'm not too comfortable.
Has anyone else experienced this?  Any info will be appreciated.

I've just DL the newest  version, and will have to update one of these evening's.

Thanks for taking time to read this post, randye

when this situation came up in these forums before, that is exactly what was discovered: some html files being previewed contained spyware - unknown to the user at the time.

Good Day Nikos & fgagnon,
Thank you for the fast replies.  I've run into the .html external links before, and they are a real pain. So, I took a closer look at the firewall logs and they show that Windows Media Player, Adobe Acrobat, and several other programs are all trying to reach the same address. So, I must have some ingenius malware hiding on my system imitating known programs. When I find it, I'll let you now what was hiding on my system!
Again, thank you for all the help!
And THANK YOU for such a Wonderfull Program!

Try using a plain text editor to open one of those suspect html files.
You may be surprised at what you find.
(it doesn't take much knowledge of HyperText Markup Language to get the drift of what's going on.)
