One of the simplier benefits of Windows explorer is that when I am putting together many video or picture clips in thumbnail mode, I can visually group similiar videos (i.e. the cookout) and drag them into an order, select them all and quickly rename them (cookout (1), cookout (2)). When I drag a thumbnail in xplorer2, I get the error "can't move- same folder" popup. I don't want to move it, just rearrange it.

you can't change the position of icons in the view
the pro version has these "scrap containers" which you can use for such tasks. There you can "put items aside" without actually moving them from their location in the folder. Once you build a collection you can do whatever you want with it, including renaming
