Nikos,

In a future version, would it be possible to add a "quick find" prefix to the address bar? So for example if I type...

{prefix} link

2x would automatically select the first file with "link" in it's name, then each time I press "enter" it would jump to the next file. (In the active pane)

Possible?

Additionally, all desired features suggested by users can be compiled here and kept neatly, in one single list.

To sum it up, it could be webpage(s) OR separate threads exclusively meant for the following:

1. Suggested enhancements/new features (sort of a TO-Do list for Nikos! )
2. Minor tweaks (mainly GUI-related)
3. Unusual/innovative uses of 2X

In case threads are used, the users will have to maintain a self-imposed discipline; and add only the core item (not comments, opinions, rejoinders, etc...)

Wait a minute! Are we counting the chicken before they hatch, Nikos? :spin:

BRX:

obviously i haven't seen you but i doubt you are either female or squirrel-like  :) I really had scores of people getting on my teats about these things so in the end i said to hell with it

wrt scrap, yes it will accept drops from find results (but not the other way round) but the find results will allow you (i believe) all the options that scrap does, so you wouldn't need to transfer files -- unless you were doing successive searches

JD5000:

i'm not sure i follow your suggestion. You can use the automatic "incremental" search to reach the first matching file. Wouldn't the next "match" be directly underneath it? -- that would assume you had things sorted by name of course

narayan:

i'm planning to add a page in the website listing all the tips'n'tricks. There we can have other articles written by you power users. Pick up an interesting subject, write a draft and I'll post it.

How did you know? Would be a rather scary thought, though. ;-)

Kind of relieving, too! :-)

Fine!

Exactly my point. Hmmmm (thinking loud), what about something similar like sticky selection in the find window, so you can keep the results of the previous searches?

perhaps it hasn't occured to you yet, but you can use x2's scrap window as we speak, running in parallel with 2xExplorer. I grant you that there are not many things supported at present, but basic file management is there. Just have 2x and x2 running in parallel and you're laughing!

Just stealing a scared look at xplorer2 over the fence..

Nikos, does the scrap/search window and folder contents window auto-refresh when the corresponding source folders change (because, say, you deleted or added some items)?

yes
proper autorefresh and loads of columns are the main revolutions brought by x2 that 2x will always remain jealous about -- and permanently since this is an incurable condition

(I noticed this part afterwards- sorry! )

In 2x, the items listed in scrap/search box can be deleted or copied; but cannot be moved.

In x2, will it be possible to move (cut+paste) only the selected items from the scrap/search box?

let us forget about 2x, and concentrate on the new x2

scrap frames are like regular folder views but instead of reading any particular folder in its entirety they show whatever items you drop (or paste) in -- no actual disk items change position though

the good news is that scraps are fully operational for all kinds of file management -- unlike 2x's find results window which is rather crap in retrospect. Moves, drag/drops, full shell context menu support and what have you are all supported

now x2 find result windows will be based on scrap frames (subclasses thereof for the object-oriented minded folk) and as such will inherit all their functionality, including cut/copy/drag and all the rest of it. The specialization in the find frame is that it won't accept willy-nilly files dropped into it but it will get filled with files matching the search criteria. You could however carry stuff from find results to scraps
