@ ... that explains it -
well, it agrees with my postulate, nikos would be more likely to know; but neither of us has tried Quick View Plus.
@ ... focus moves -
that's a documented issue for some file types. the need to tab back is a nuisance. no fix seen yet.
@ funny thing is -
I know normal doesn't use IE 100%, so I guess that if IE isn't called for some filetype(s) then QVplus won't be used either (e.g. with the Adobe plugin).
PS - x2 is not perfect, but it's the best FM I've found.
Well, at least now we know that Quick View Plus works though somewhat quirky with the focus problem.
But ideally, it should use the filters that come with Yahoo Desktop Search, which is even better, and that would probably also solve the focus problem.
And besides, it will then view a lot more other formats and whatever formats Yahoo Desktop Search recognises in future.
I have emailed you and Fred a couple of screen captures.
Now let me touch on the commenting notes issue.
Yes, I tried the comments thing but it only works on some files like Word files and possibly some others. But certainly not exe, gifs, jpgs, zip etc.
So one would not be able to add comments to those non compliant ones and the data one can add is somewhat limited.
In Filenotes, the database is kept separately and is unlimited. I can even associate a note with a file I downloaded and clicking on the note will take me to the website - What I normally do is highlight the details I want from the website, and copy it the Copy URL extension for Firefox. That helps me to keep track of why I downloaded a file etc or for that matter why I made another version of a document.
AFAK, you can add comments to any file, providing it's on an NTFS partition.
These comments are different from file-internal comment/preview features of some files like Word or Excel.
They are strored in an alternate data stream (ADS), and can be added/edited from x2 with Alt+Z.
Yes they are limited; but 257 characters seems like a lot to me.
And x2 can pack these comments (and other ADS content) "to-go" so you can carry the files with their ADS bundles on CD or flash to another machine and restore the bundled content after copying the base file data to another NTFS-partition destination.
But is probably not as flexible as Filenotes (which I have yet to try).
bookman wrote:One more thing, I installed explorer2 lite initially and then xplorer2 Pro.
Now even if I execute the xplorer2.exe in the Xplorer2_lite directory, xplorer2 Pro will execute.
ie I cannot get back into the lite version - so I cannot tell you if the Quick View Plus viewer also works in the lite version.
Regarding not being able to start X²_Lite:
Are you sure you have no X² Pro running when you attempt to start the Lite version? Because if you do, X² simply spawns a new window of the already running process in stead of starting the desired Lite version. (You can prevent this by specifying the '/P' switch on the command line)

Thanks for the tip JRz
I was able to load X2 Lite and can confirm that there is no Normal Tab in the Quick Previewer pane.
As such is you have files such as Corel Draw CDR, CGM, that is handled well by Quick View Plus or for that matter anything (eg zip, pdfs) that would only "play" in "Internet Explorer" and won't display in the Draft Preview, you are out of luck in the lite version - go get the Pro version.
But remember, you will have to buy Quick View Plus though unless, somehow, you can associate the viewers in Yahoo Desktop Search with the Normal Tab or the filters are available already (any ideas here ?)

The 'Normal' tab is intentionally absent in the Lite version (policy of the author; see the feature comparison list in the Quick start guide)
