QuickViewer without MS M Player ?

Post by Ianhulland »

I have never installed the current MS WMPlayer, but having the original version 4 or 6 of WMP somwhere inside the box has always meant that the Quick Viewer in Xplorer2 Lite, instantlyplayed MP3's and videos.

Now I use the " Bare Bones" version of XP Pro ( 200Mbytes total) with NO WMPlayer installed at all, does that mean I have to go out and install Version 10 specially to get the Quickviewer to play music/ videos, or can I install ( eg) Jet audio Plus the Codecs only for WMPlayer?
I see in the X2 blurb that Win Media Player is a condition for the Quick Viewer to work, and here in Europe we kicked out that particular Gates monopoly of HAVING to use the WMP!

Anyone had experience of using other MP3 Players with the Quick Viewer? Thanks Ian.

Thanks for your quick reply Nikos.
I will go and hunt for a really  early version of WMP as I find the Q Viewer indispensable for a quick look at mail attachments ( to keep and forward or trash !)

Whilst I have chance, many Thanks also for THE best file manager. Ian.

I COULD say " It's a secret" that would make you sit up Eh?
Do I smell and idea approaching in your mind--to preview mail from inside X2 ?.....................

No, relax!--I set up my USB drive with "Jokes" "Videos" folders etc and get attachments moved there immediately, then after a few hours I
( formerly) used to go through with X2quickview.--I REALLY miss that speed of viewing--so much so I am off to do a search to try to download WMP 4 or some such-
-In your opinion -will Q View still work with early versions of WMP? ( plus codecs of course) ??
(A REAL Great pity I can't use Irfanview to play MP3's in X2 ) Thanks Ian.

Just for the sake of completeness, and in case anyone else uses XP Pro with NO Media player installed;-

WMP 6.4  " Not compatible with Win XP system"

WMP 7.1 ( for 98 ) " Not compatible...."

WMP 9.0 said it couldn't install properly on XP Pro SP2-aborted, BUT all media now plays with Xplorer2 QuickView window.

( Still a pity I had to install it specially, and that it can't be configured separately, for e.g., IrfanView--but I guess that is a bit like the iceberg--9/10th's below the surface of the programming ?)
