Strange behavior on xplorer2 exit.

Post by litefoot »

Has anyone else had this problem? I am using Windows XP with SP2 installed.

Sometimes when I exit xplorer2_lite the program window closes normally but the cursor changes to an hour glass and remains on the display for several seconds after the window closes. Sometimes if I immediately restart xplorer2_lite the cursor starts as an hour glass for several seconds before changing to the normal arrow.

Occasionally after exiting xplorer2_lite if I can start shutdown while the hour glass cursor is still displayed, the operating system displays a dialog that says waiting for xploror2 to terminate and do I want to terminate the program now. In the title bar the program is shown as xplorer2_commport. This happens with versions 1.2.0.1, 1.3.0.2, and 1.4.0.1. The same thing also happens on my wife's computer.

I have tried to find what is common with each of the occurrences but so far I am unable to reproduce it at will. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. The only common thing seems to be prolonged use before terminating the program.

Is this a normal behavior with this program? If anyone can help I would be grateful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi nikos. Thanks for the response.

Sorry that it took so long to get back but it took a while to finally find a way to reproduce what is described in my first posting.

It happens when examining a folder containing several files on a CD. The folder I first noticed it happening with has 182 files. After scrolling thru all files I eject the CD. I then exit xplorer2. The hour glass continues on for a few seconds. After the hourglass changes to the normal arrow cursor taskmgr.exe or Process Explorer shows that xplorer2 and DRWTSN32.EXE continue to run in the background for more than 20 seconds. During this time xplorer2 shows a memory use a little more than 16000K. xplorer2 and DRWTSN32.EXE then quit.

I obtained a copy of the log by DRWTSN32.EXE if your interested. It's very lengthly(over 66K) so I didn't include it here.

It doesn't seem to matter how the CD is formatted or whether a CDRom or CD-RW is tried. Most of the time the same thing happens.

Sorry I can't pin it down more than that but will keep trying to find out more.

Thanks again.

what do you usually do with the cd?
if a mere reading is enough to cause this behaviour, then which columns are you  using?

I use the CDs to store data files. It doesn't matter whether I only scroll thru the files or take some action such as copy or move.

The columns that I use are Name,  Size, and Modified. Sort order is by Name ascending with folders sorted separately. Automatic resort if OFF. Hilite primary sort column is OFF.

I'll keep trying to narrow the conditions to reproduce it down some more.

Thanks.
