x2 hangs a lot

Post by redsandro »

Hi,

I think x2 is somewhat great except that it hangs a lot on different occasions.

Most important/boring is when I have a set of tabs saved to instantly see some local folders and some folders on remote computers, with x2 running on a laptop. Then, when I travel somewhere, I launch x2 (remote's are not there) and it hangs for ever.

Strangely, launching with command line /T or /D:c:\ /T doesn't stop it from hanging.

Couldn't the non responding tabs hang instead of the whole application? It would be so less frustrating to see "oh this tab doesn't respond.. let's just close it."

Also, can someone tell me where the tabs are saved? Maybe just for now I can erase those settings everytime x2 hangs.

Accidentally opening the recycle bin on a not so fast computer is also boring. It automaticly selects ALL colums to be visible and loads for ever 'till all files are scanned or something. Another error is that when I select the recycle bin on a remote computer, the files in the local bin are shown. I found that out the uncool way.

I'm sorry, the 'permanent hang' I mentioned earlier seams to occur more randomly. Today it hung just about 6 seconds and issued an error.

Random stuff is more likely to be the fault of the configuration of the OS i think. However, stable software should not give in to stuff like that. (I mean, MS Explorer and Cubic Explorer did not hang a second.)

Even tho a pause of 6 seconds is so much better, I still think only the resective tab should hang and not the entire xplorer2.

Would you look into that? :)

there's no way round the delays if some network resource is unavailable. Your safest bet is to use a shortcut with command line arguments that force a particular safe location e.g. "c:\ c:\" in conjunction with /T it works for me!

if you buy the pro version you will be able to restore folder tabs at wills (folder groups feature)

all paths etc are stored in the registry, see registry.txt in the installation folder for more info

I discovered tweaking services.msc (windows) somehow makes x2 hang more often. I don't know which ones do the trick, but it might be something to keep in mind.

What about using a separate thread for each panel?
