1.4.0.1 different on XP?

Post by 9nine9 »

I installed version 1.4.0.1 on XP and it doesn't seem to have the same customization options available as the same version on my Win98SE.

I'm the administrator/owner of the XP computer. What am I doing wrong?

Or does version 1.4.0.1 work differently on XP?

Thanks

OK, wait a minute!

I just noticed that 1.4.0.1 on Win98SE probably looks the same as the one on XP EXCEPT FOR...

The fact that I had already customized a few things from an earlier version on Win98 and apparently, those customizations remained when I "upgraded" to version 1.4.0.1

I failed to notice that I couldn't do a few things I was able to do in an earlier version.

Is this true? Can it be true that earlier customizability has been taken away?

If so, which of those earlier versions was more customizable? I think it was 1.1.0.1 or something.

Geeze! This is kind of a bummer.

But I guess Universal Capitalization marches forward.

AFAIK, nothing has been 'taken away'.
You didn't say what seems to be missing, so I can only suggest that you check 'changes.txt' to see if what you want may have been 'improved' such that the control is set differently.

if you export your old options from 9x you can reuse them in XP (lite version only)

I think this issue might be mostly my own mistake.

I saw that new Customize menu and falsely assumed that I could no longer customize the toolbar.

But now I'm back to normal.

Thanks.

Does that mean some options have been removed in later versions?

nothing has been removed
the only change is with some pro version menu commands that have [P] added in front of them and just advertise the extended capabilities that are lacking from the free lite version
