Run As admin while another instance's running

Post by wasker »

Nikos, I remember that we've been emailing about this issue, but latest release still cannot work if Ran As. It's just a friendly reminder.

Sorry, not yet. Actually, I'm waiting for some kind of release version (alpha, beta, whatever, but not debugging Kenny) to replace the current one and use&test it.

Just tried latest Kenny -- the problem is still here.

I'm working and running Kenny's instance under LUA(*), when I run Kenny as Administrator, I still cannot open Documents and Settings\Administrator folder, so the new instance is still running under LUA.

(*) LUA = Limited User Account

it seems to me you were running a "kenny" already as LUA and then you tried to run the second one as SU; unless you use /P command line option the 2nd will end up launching a thread (clone) in the first process

R-r-right! :D Thanks, it did the trick.

I noticed a little problem in this mode (master Kenny running under LUA, new instance under Administrator): an instance that is running under Administrator doesn't catch folder changes. "Hold autorefresh" option is turned off. Is this a know issue?

yes, even windows explorer can't autorefresh
you can create a shortcut on your desktop using a separate "layout" (/S command line option), in which you enable GIOPT_ALTAREFRESH. This isn't recommended for normal use but it will work in your scenario

Now I created a shortcut which runs Kenny with "/P /S" switches -- it doesn't help.

Or you mean I also need to hack registry to make it working?

correct
while logged as admin create a clone of your registry settings using Window | save layout, with a descriptive name. After you quit get back in the registry and modify xplorer2_UC.yourextension as described in registry.txt to add the advanced setting i mentioned

Nikos, I finally managed myself to configure x2 properly to run as admin under LUA.

It works.

I'd recommend you to compile and include all these comments into FAQ.
