Nikos explained that if we set bSingleWindow to 1 in t he registry, all new instances of xplorer2 will appear in a single, rather than multiple windows.
We were also told that to make any folder open with xplorer2, set the
default shell command for folders to open_x2, in the registry.
Seems these options may be incompatible: When I set both as described,
new instances of xplorer2 start coming up in multiple windows. When
I change the default program for folders back to explorer, I get
the single window for all instances of xplorer2, again.
There appear to be other complex interactions between the
last state of xplorer2, for instance if it is in two plane mode, and
what happens when you open a new instance, say an attempt to
start xplorer2 with one directory in single pane mode..

Possible Bug: single window for all instances of xplorer2
Nikos asked:
> are you using the /S: command line option for any shortcuts?
No, all my registry settings are permanently placed in the usual place for xplorer2.

I am having a similar problem. I set open_x2 as default for file folders. Starting x2 with shortcut still opens in dual pane mode but clicking on a file folder opens x2 in single pane mode. This setting then becomes sticky. I can change to dual pane mode and then x2 will open in dual pane until I open it by opening a file folder again.
I assume this has something to do with the windows settings for handling file folders.

Previously I was not passing any options in command line. When I opened a folder directly on the desktop with left click it opened in x2 but in single pane mode. This was "sticky".
Now I have added the /2 switch to the x2 shortcut so x2 always opens in dual pane mode except if I open a folder directly from my desktop.
Not a big deal but I would prefer if folders I opened from desktop opened in dual pane.
BTW thanks for this incredible tool. I have gotten so used to it I would be frustrated having to go back to windows explorer. I'm slowly learning to take advantage of some of it's many features. I think soon I will be ready to move to the Pro version.
X2 ROCKS!
