i thought i remembered that during the installation process, xplorer lite asked if i wanted to use XP Style or not; and that i had chosen not to at the time....

am i dreaming or getting confused w/ another program? or is that option to use XP Style not available during installation of xplorer lite?

If XP style is actually not available (nikos can verify/refute) then there is misinformation in the install process (unless the option was greyed out and you did not notice).

well, i just installed xplorer2_lite on a test computer running Win ME; and no such option to choose XP Style appeared.
maybe i was dreaming after all....
it looks considerably better than on my XP machine, 4 some odd reason; but whatever.

what are the + or - of getting the Unicode version of xplorer2 PRO vs the regular version?

Where is the link for it?

ok, then check your shortcut that launches x2; which folder is it in? (you could have multiple installations) - it's in that folder you must have the manifest file. If that doesn't fix it i give up!

nikos, sorry about all this.
i'm not really sure what u r referring to in ur last post.
on my XP machine, i only have the Lite version.
is XP Style available for the Lite version as an install option or not? maybe that is the problem.... if it's NOT available in Lite version, i'm wasting everybody's time here....  :?

if i upgrade to PRO, can u tell me pros and cons of choosing unicode version over ansi version?

where is the link for the pro unicode version?

Tx!

see here for comparison table.
Click on the "Download Trial" button at the bottom of the page for the Pro version.

tx. i already know all this.  my question was PRO version Unicode versus PRO version ANSI; pros and cons.

the reason i asked is that i have d/l'ed the PRO version for my Win ME test machine but that installed the PRO ANSI version.  and i followed the regular link on the site--which then went to downloads.com

thus my question: how to u get the Unicode version as opposed to ANSI version....

perhaps it is automatic based on which version of Windows u have (XP versus ME, etc.) and sets Unicode or ANSI accordingly...?

It's automatic, based on what your OS will support.

back to your question...
(which is more philosophical that substantive IMHO)

Style (XP or other) has nothing to do with function -- it's just looks.
Having said that, I will also argue that style often has a lot to do with usability, familiarity & comfort -- so you can get your work done more quickly and/or with fewer errors & less confusion.  But as in the world of fashion, style is a personal choice. If in doubt, it's best to try it on and see how it works for you, before you decide on one style over another.  ;)

er... u'r totally right; but my whole point here was to be ABLE to try the 2 different looks--if available; then choose...
but, that said, i am happy w/ the program & its functions and it's a job done very well....  :)

What about going the other way?  I installed (pro version) with the option to use the XP look and feel.  I prefer the classic style though.  Is there an easy way to change back to the classic view?

i really don't know but perhaps deleting the file: "xplorer2.exe.manifest" ?
try exiting x2, re-naming it to "xplorer2.exe.manifest.old" and re-starting x2 perhaps?

hopefully Nikos will see this post and provide mroe data.
