BUG: Color coding works on both active / inactive panes...

Post by TsunamiZ »

BUG: Color coding text of files / folders works on both active / inactive panes if both panes have the same background color.  This behavior is inconsistent.  If another windows moves over the files / folders of the inactive pane, it turns the inactive pane files / folders text back to black.

if u have both active and inactive pane set to use the same color and you have color coding on, you'll notice color coding becomes active on both panes simulataneously--instead of only on active pane

I don't see this. I have the same colour coding on both panes, (no tree), and the colours only appear when the pane is active, the inactive pane has no colours.

I doubt that folks disbelieve you, they haven't seen the effect.

I took a look this evening and can corroborate your report, TsunamiZ.
It is only necessary to set the backgound colors the same for the active and inactive panes.
Easily done by setting the same REG_DWORD value for
rgbActiveBgcol
and
rgbInactiveBgcol
in the registry directly under HKCU\Software\Zab...\xplorer2_UC

I would call this result a curious anomaly, as my preference is to have different BG colors for those panes.  I suppose it might be nice to have a muted version of the active pane color filters displayed in the inactive pane; but I wouldn't want them to be the same. (Too much pane cunfusion --- at least for me.)  And I'd have to think about whether a muted scheme for inactive pane would be nice merely for aesthetics, or also beneficial for useability.

color code: ebebeb
RGB: 235 235 235

this occurance is not supposed to be possible.  yet it is possible under this scenario.  however, it doesn't work 100% correctly since moving another window on top of the inactive text removes the color from areas of the text.

OK, I took the time to set up the case carefully  since my earlier post (see my revised post, above).  I checked a couple of different BG colors and got the effect whenever they were the same.  And, yes, I also see that moving another app's window over the inactive pane acts to erase the text color.

But the question remains --- is this useful, or just a quirk?

well, i have asked for an option to enable color coding in both panes--xplorer2 doesn't currently support this.  this is a bug that kind of works like the requested feature--but its too quicky and limited to be truly useful.  i suggest fixing this bug and implement a real option to make "enable color coding in both panes" work properly.
