I saw the same tip on LifeHacker. I was amazed that I just learned this. Why has this been hidden for so many years? It would be easy to add the instruction to the error box dialog. Shame on Microsoft for not making this public long ago.

This is a new one for me, too. Always was mislead by not being able to select the text for copying. Thanks for mentioning this.

I have forgotten that trick a dozen times since discovering it years ago.  
Today (with your post) I am toggled back to the "I know it" state.  ;)

Whoa, this was a surprise for you? :shock: I've been using this feature for years...
I'm using Xplorer2 - the only file manager that does not suck. Actually, it rocks!

a very old system-wide hotkey to save in the clipboard (graphically) a single window: alt+print

and a freeware tool for the same purpose (save the text when allowed and save the window and keep an history):
