Problem with date format and groups

Post by nachomama »

My pane style is set to "details".  In the the "modified" and "created" columns, I can only get general descriptions displayed such as "last week" instead of an actual date.  I've found in the manual where it discusses "groups", but I couldn't find how to turn it off so it actually displays a real date.  Can anyone help?

That controls how the "dates" type columns (modified/created/accessed) are displayed in the pane.

But the "grouped" display is independent of that setting: Even when the date column is displayed normally (i.e., not in "user-friendly" format), if you sort the pane on dates first and then activate the group display (View | Arrange by | Show in groups menu) the pane will always show the user-friendly groups (last hour, today, etc.).

In other words, items are never grouped based on actual dates.

narayan,

The mention of "groups" was a red herring (false lead).

I think nikos nailed it.

I believe nachomama's issue how to show real dates & times vs:
Today, Yesterday, Last week, etc.
(which also happen to be group category names, when show in groups is enabled -- hence the confusion) ;)

I knew Nikos had answered the main question. I covered the other possible angle also. (After all, he picked up the hint about user-friendly dates from "groups" topic; so he could be interested in that too).

Incidentally, I found that the manual does not mention how to turn the groups on/off (it only introduced the concept of groups). Now this description is added in the next version due to appear this week.
