No point in sending the file. As soon as they updated their definitions file Xplorer2 began working again so their fix applies to both versions. Besides which I did tell her that the problem had been resolved following the update.
Incidentally, despite the problems created by this false positive I have to say that AVG's support is amongst the best I have come across. They are really thorough and always answer rapidly. That may be the case with others however, it was not my experience when I used Kaspersky or Norton.

While not related to Xplorer2, I just thought you guys might be interested to hear about AVG's latest antics.
I have been using WS_FTP Pro for the last 6 years without any problem. Last night AVG decided to identify it as a "Trojan Horse Generic5.GRL".
Where have we heard that before?!!!
As with the issue of Xplorer2, the program locked access to WS_FTP and repeatedly gave me a warning that it was a virus leaving me no alternative than to move it to the virus vault so that AVG would shut up and leave me in peace.
I have of course submitted a false positive report but this is the second time in one month that AVG has crippled my business. I bought the program to protect it, NOT ATTACK it, so I'm going to ask them for a refund and change to BitDefender.
I repeat what I said before, AVG's customer service is excellent but their product does not match my requirements.
Edit:
Just heard back from AVG. They confirm it is a false positive and will work to provide a fix later today. There's no denying their customer care is very reactive! I still don't want the product anymore, it's more of a hindrance than a boon.

Thanks, Robert2, for those links, especially the consumersearch one.
I had forgotten to mention that site myself in related posts.
It is one I use regularly for product comparisons of hardware and services, but hadn't thought to check it for software. It is a very good collection of other peoples reviews along with a summary / consensus / impression of the referenced reviews.
From the better reviews cited, I see that NOD32 is a big up-and-comer. It may well be the best-AV app out there -- at least as far as effectiveness goes; although it gets knocked a bit on ease-of-use and a less-than-user-friendly interface. Even so, I will put it into my evaluation mix for my next AV purchase when my BitDefender subscriptions run out in Dec.2008.
