Adding bookmarks to the Tree

Post by mjbrookes »

Hello,

Is it possible to add bookmarks to the Tree view?

I see that MyDocuments is displayed within the tree, but that My Music is not, I would like to add My Music to the tree, then in principal I would like to be able to add other bookmarked folders to the tree.

For example about 5 levels down from c: I have a folder for my website files. This folder has many subfolders and quite a few sub-levels. I would like to put a bookmark on the top level of the tree, so that I do not have to find my way down the first 5 levels each time I want to use it.

I realise that I can bookmark that window to show that folder, but I like the features on the tree that allow me to scroll up & down the branch and have the folder files display in the first pane. The current bookmark to the folder means that I have to click-into & out of every folder that I want to review.

Is this clear? I hope so, anyway, is ther any way to do this?

regards

mark, what you need is the scrap pane (View menu) that's available in the professional version, then you can have something like this picture

Hello Nikos

Thank you for your reply. I have downloaded the Trial Pro versions to see if Mini Scrap pane was what I wanted. I have done a bit of testing & a Bit of reading the manual.

I can see that the mini scrap pane can be useful however I have not been able to get it to do quite what I was looking for. I managed to get it to work like a Bookmark. What I want is for something to work like the Tree-view - but just for a branch of the tree. IOW once I specify which folder is to be the "root" of the Branch, I want the tree functions to work for all the files & sub folders. (especially as I browse the subfolders in the tree I would like the files in each subfolder to appear in the first pane).

Can I get the mini scrap pane to work like a branch of the TREE View?

Can I add a Dummy Branch to the main tree view?
EG MY Documents is really a folder several levels down from c:/ but it shows up at the top level of the Tree view. Can I add my own folders to the Tree-view?

There is so many things that xploere2 can do that I am not sure if I just haven't learned how yet, of if it really cant't.

Regards
Mark

as you've seen the miniscrap is just like a plain flat view, so it can't be made tree=like

it is possible to use the /R: optional command line switch to restrict the tree and everything else to browsing into a limited branch, e.g. /R:c:\documents would only allow you to browse under c:\documents and nowhere else. But if you had to jump to D: say, you'd be stopped

Hello Nikos

Thank you for your reply.

I understand your idea & it's limits, thanks for it.
I have thought of an alternative.

It is a bit klunky and I foresee problems in the future with my drives & network, and I can't create as many as I want , however it works reasonably well for now:-

If I Map the target folder as a Network drive then it will be included in the TreeView.

Clever heh? as a stopgap measure.

How does one make a suggesti0n/FeatureRequest for the next version?
i.e. that users ;be allowed to add folder/branches to the Tree View. (I think from reading the manual that these might be called 'nodes?)
